It is anticipated that parents seeking to have their child baptized within the Catholic Church will make arrangements at their local Catholic parish.

Have questions about the Baptism process?  Please review our guidelines below:

o   When making a petition to have a child baptized at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, parents will need to provide a recommendation from the family’s local parish within the Archdiocese of New York, in favor of the baptism taking place at the cathedral.  (A template for the recommendation is provided by the cathedral)

o   Parents also need to provide a copy of their Catholic Church marriage certificate (i.e. the certificate of marriage issued by a Catholic parish).

o    The family must live within the Archdiocese of New York.

o   Godparent(s):
- Must be a Catholic who has received the sacrament of Confirmation
- There may be one Godparent, or two. (If there are two, there must be one male and one female).
- Be at least 16 years old.
