Become a Weekday Volunteer Cantor

One of the best ways to get personally involved with the music ministry at St. Patrick’s Cathedral is by volunteering to be a Weekday Cantor. Weekday Cantors lead the congregation in song during the liturgy.

Prerequisites are:
  • previous Roman Catholic cantor experience
  • ability to read music
  • good ear and vocal technique
  • good social skills
  • desire to grow in the cantor ministry
Acceptance is by audition. The 15-minute audition consists of:
  • simple vocalise
  • sight-reading exercise from standard hymns
  • basic piano proficiency test
  • (optional: a prepared classical solo)
Cantors who pass the audition process have the opportunity to serve at one of the weekday midday Masses as well as the 5:30 Mass on Mondays and Fridays, depending on availability. We also maintain an active substitute list.

If you are interested in auditioning to become a Weekday Cantor, please contact:
